Serologic studies of type II leukosis (Marek's) infection in susceptible (S-line) and resistant (K-line) strains of chicken by indirect hemagglutination test.

چکیده
The indirect hemagglutination (IHA) test was used to investigate the difference in antigen and antibody response between genetically susceptible (S-line) and genetically resistant (K-line) chickens infected with JM virus either by natural exposure or artificial inoculation. The susceptible S-line had significantly higher levels of both IHA antigen and antibody titers than the K-line chicks over the age period of 4-8 weeks, indicating that S-line may provide a better cellular environment for growth and/or multiplication of a Type II leukosis agent than will K-line chicks. The IHA antibody possessed no significant neutralizing or protective ability. Although females are considered more susceptible to Type II leukosis, the sexes did not differ significantly in antibody or antigen titers. The control group developed no appreciable antigen or antibody titers.

Replication of Marek's disease virus in cell cultures derived from genetically resistant chickens.
Various parameters of replication of Marek's disease virus (MDV) were studied in cells derived from genetically resistant (line 6) and susceptible (line 7) chickens. Cell-free and cell-associated preparations of three strains of pathogenic MDV (JM, GA, and Id-1) replicated equally well in cells of resistant and susceptible chickens. There were no demonstrable differences between the two genetic...
متن کاملAugmentation of retrovirus-induced lymphoid leukosis by Marek's disease herpesviruses in White Leghorn chickens.
Our objective was to determine whether the cell-associated herpesvirus vaccines used in chickens to control Marek's disease tumors can augment development of lymphoid leukosis (LL) induced by exogenous avian leukosis virus (ALV). Various single or mixed Marek's disease vaccines were inoculated at day 1, and ALV was injected at 1 to 10 days, with chickens of several experimental or commercial st...
متن کاملMethods for evaluating and developing commercial chicken strains free of endogenous subgroup E avian leukosis virus.
The genome of nearly all chickens contains various DNA proviral insertions of retroviruses of subgroup E avian leukosis virus (ALVE). However, the elimination or control of ALVE gene expression is desirable to improve productivity, to improve resistance to avian leukosis virus (ALV)-induced tumours, and to develop safer live virus vaccines in chick embryos and cultured chick cells. Restriction ...
متن کاملHistone Methylation Analysis and Pathway Predictions in Chickens after MDV Infection
Marek's disease (MD) is a lymphoproliferative disease in chicken induced by Marek's disease virus (MDV). Although studies have focused on the genetic differences between the resistant and susceptible chicken, less is known about the role of epigenetic factors in MD. In this study, genome-wide histone modifications in the non-MHC-associated resistant and susceptible chicken lines were examined. ...
متن کاملMonoclonal antibody to chicken fetal antigen on Marek's disease lymphoblastoid cell line MDCC-MSB1.
A monoclonal antibody (2H3) to chicken fetal antigen (CFA) expressed on the cell surface of the Marek's disease lymphoblastoid cell line MDCC-MSB1 was generated. 2H3 reacted specifically with various cells from chicken embryos, especially with fetal red blood cells, fetal bursa-derived lymphocytes, fetal liver cells, and embryo fibroblasts but not with fetal peripheral blood lymphocytes. 2H3 re...
